Making Friends Doesn’t Have to Be Awkward

Let’s be honest, NYC can feel huge, and trying to make friends at a school as massive as NYU? Kinda overwhelming.
Enter Violet Strolls: chill, weekly walks around the city where you can meet new people, explore cool spots, and just vibe. No pressure, no awkward icebreakers, no forced group chats. Just walking, talking, and discovering NYC with other NYU students who are down for the same.
So What Is Violet Strolls?
It’s exactly what it sounds like. We pick a theme, you show up, and we all go for a walk. That’s it. Think coffee shop crawls, rooftop views, cute bookstore strolls, and maybe a cheeky bar at the end if that’s the vibe.
Some recent ideas we’ve cooked up:
Coffee Crawl through SoHo
Hidden Parks in the West Village
Pub Walk: Downtown Edition
Sunset Hudson Strolls
No sign-up stress, just check the weekly schedule, pull up, and walk with us.
Why We’re Doing This
Because meeting people shouldn’t feel like a networking event.
Because NYC has so much to see beyond Washington Square Park.
Because walking = free therapy.
Because sometimes you just need a reason to log off and touch grass.
The Details You Actually Care About
- Who’s it for? NYU students. That’s it. No clubs, no cliques, no weird vibes.
- How do I find out about walks? We’re dropping everything on Instagram: @violetstrollsnyu
- Is it every week? Yep. New theme every time.
- Do I have to talk to people? Nope. But you probably will. In a good way.
We’re also working on:
- A website with maps + sign-ups
- Cool visuals (we’re in our Canva era)
- Student ambassadors to lead walks
- Collabs with coffee shops, bars, and local spots
Want to Get Involved?
We’re looking for student leaders, social media nerds, chill walkers, and anyone who just wants to help build something fun and low-key on campus.
